Attorney Ross Garber, a former federal law clerk and District of Connecticut Law Clerks Society member, announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for state attorney general. Garber, who represented former Governor John G. Rowland's office in an impeachment scandal and federal investigation, said he is ready for the job because he has been a lawyer representing individuals and businesses. Also seeking the GOP nomination is Avon lawyer Martha Dean, who lost the nomination to Attorney General Richard Blumenthal in 2002.
Ross Garber - former federal law clerk, DCLC member, and former counsel to Governor John Rowland - may be the next U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
As most of us in Connecticut know, Ross represented the Governor's office during the impeachment inquiry and federal investigation of Governor Rowland. Ross handled compliance with federal subpoenas of records, and won a landmark appeals court ruling that held that Rowland's legal adviser could not be ordered to repeat conversations she had about gifts the governor received.
Governor M. Jodi Rell has now nominated Ross, in a letter to President Bush, to become the District's next U.S. Attorney. Ross would replace current Connecticut U.S. Attorney Kevin J. O'Connor, who is awaiting Senate confirmation to become associate attorney general at the Department of Justice.
Bush must now decide whether to nominate Ross, and the U.S. Senate must approve the nomination.
Of particular note to this organization, Ross was a law clerk to Chief U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny, and is a member of the District of Connecticut Law Clerk's Society (DCLC).
Congratulations Ross! We wish you luck!
